How are you so free
I'm curious to know how you all are able to travel freely? What is your occupation? Any advice?

@Quetsy Estremera I work seasonal/temporary jobs, then hit the road again and repeat! It can be tough though, depending on what kind of job you get. For example, I worked 50h/week sorting bulbs in the Netherlands for two months last year. It's a very physically demanding job.
Changed Van layout 5 Times in 12 months
We face challenges every day and the last week has been exceptional. We’ve had endless grey clouds and torrential rain peppered with wind and the really annoying rain that you could just dodge the rain drops - stops all outside activities and kids revert to the camper. Our current set up is 1 king size bed at rear like most campers then we have a pull down between single and double size bed, I added that in June this year. Mainly to stop having to fix and unfix 3 kids car seats every day. We have a double at the front (when i move the car seats) and add in a bed board. I added that December last year. We have a pop top with kids beds in the roof. Then when it gets cold i go in the roof! I put this in before we moved in to the camper. I have had a dividing wall in the middle so bedroom area was out of sight, but removed that in April to make the van open plan. So we now have during day 6 seats and a fixed bed with a sitting area along the side. This is the base for the fold down bed. I am going to add a kitchen to cook inside as the UK weather is challenging in the rain. In Portugal where everything we own is currently, this is not a problem. So from setting off I’ve changed van layout 5 times and now we have room and lots of beds. How many of you hit the perfect formula and get it right first time? Definitely adding a kitchen in the next few weeks.

@David Stanley I hear you, the rain is so tough, especially if your setup is not really rain-friendly! Changes are normal though, since it's a small space and when your needs change, your setup changes with them!😁 I myself have changed layout a few times too and am still trying to figure out how I want to setup my van. It's a struggle. Not everyone gets it right the first time around, or the second...or the third😬
It‘s me and Trine
Hello everyone, (I hope that here is the right place now😅) My name is Rike, I come from Germany and I have been living in a self-converted IVECO DHL parcel van for about two years. Last year, I travelled through Portugal for the first time for six months. Since June, I have been accompanied by a little white mixed-breed dog named Trine. I don't have much experience when it comes to travelling and am curious about the people I will meet here in the group. That's all for now. Best regards, Rike

The Call that changed everything for me
I ended up leaving my last place after some landlord drama (he showed his true colors the moment I asked about AC and mold). Within a call asking me to leave. With no backup plan, I packed up and moved into my car and honestly, those two weeks showed me I might actually be built for this. Living simply, traveling, and focusing on my purpose feels aligned. My Honda CRV has been great, but I’m curious how others make van life work. Excited to be here and learn from you all. So much thanks for having me!

@Quetsy Estremera welcome! It must be tough living out of a car, what did you enjoy most about it?

@Quetsy Estremera that's part of what living this way is about! Sounds like you're on a fulfilling journey😁
Do you sometimes clean your van and wish you didn't?
I enjoy cleaning my van and do a deep-clean from time to time, but sadly for me, that means I can see all the scratches and rust spots that are usually hidden by the dirt... I know they are there but it's so much easier to stay oblivious. Out of sight, out of mind😬 How often do you clean your home on wheels?

I'm a full-time solo traveler in my small van. I believe the best moments, are those shared with others!🌍🏕
