Single mom working as a truck driver
Good morning, My name is Opeal Banks I reside in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I've only been driving for 8 months locally. I have a 12 year old little girl that I barely spend time with due to my trucking career. I became interested in dispatching a month ago. Truck driving is cool but I feel like it's no longer for me, I rather be on the opposite side of trucking instead. I want to make at least $5000-$10000 a month. And definitely want to spend more time with my daughter. I love to cook, paint and read mystery books. I would love to hear from the community and take any advice on how to get started.

Hey @Opeal Banks and welcome to the community! I am engaged to a Class A truck driver so I am starting to see how this will benefit me to understand more than just "go, go, go". He always tells me not to have that mentality because it'll burn you out quickly. I look forward to learning the other side of trucking.

The Basics
I learned a lot already watching the video The Basics. I’m not in the trucking industry and besides dispatcher, didn’t know who was who. Glad the terminology kicked in immediately - it was one of the things I wanted to learn from this. Anybody else brand new to the trucking industry? I believe in multiple sources of income and now I finally have time to break into it. What’s the main reason you decided to learn about being a dispatcher?

Definitely needed this as a career change. After dealing with customer service for I don't know how long, I realized I needed to find my passion and make it into a career. I am big on logistics and transportation. One day I started researching and found that dispatching will be my best option. 🥳
