Dear members of this community, I, @Tap Gamer, have spent these last few days investigating the Top Chess lore. You see, I got in contact with @Noob Kao, the Top 1 Fan for Top Chess, as he filled me in with all that he knows about the lore. As of now, he's working on another parallel project that will help me further unlock the full lore. But other than Noob, I got in contact with Dsb, an editor and the main storyteller for TC/DC. He corrected some of my theories, clarified several things that were never properly explained in the videos, and gave me information that completely changes how some parts of the story should be understood. What follows is therefore almost a fully confirmed timeline, based on the episodes, the existing lore, Noob Kao's research, and Dsb's own explanations. There are still unanswered questions, and I'll clearly separate what is confirmed from what is speculation. 1. The Beginning: The Chess World Top Chess did not originally begin with a giant planned mythology. According to Dsb, there were no plans for a massive lore from the beginning. The creators simply started making interconnected episodes. As more episodes were made, continuity became complicated, and they gradually developed explanations that connected previous events. In other words, the lore developed naturally. This is important when looking back at the earliest episodes. Not every strange detail from an old meme was necessarily planned as foreshadowing. Some events became important later because the story grew around them. The earliest major storyline revolves around the pieces themselves. Rooks are treated badly and disrespected. Eventually, Rooks gain more respect, but this doesn't end the conflict. Instead, the Kings begin turning their hatred toward Bishops. The Bishop eventually becomes one of the most consistently disrespected pieces in the Chess World. At this point, the story still looks like a collection of chess memes and character conflicts.
