Have you ever noticed how rarely movies show the real health struggles that so many of our families face?
When I think about Soul Food, I can’t help but remember Big Mama. She wasn’t just the heart of the family, she was also diabetic, suffered a stroke, and eventually passed away. That moment when she burned her arm while cooking felt so real, because many of us have witnessed our loved ones quietly battling health issues while still trying to hold everything together. I’ve always appreciated Tracy Edmonds for having the courage to bring those realities to the screen. It wasn’t just a story—it was a mirror. So I want to ask you: 👉🏾 Can you recall a time when a movie you watched made you stop and really think about health in our communities? 👉🏾 How did it hit you? Stories like these stay with us because they touch truth. I’d love to hear what scenes or films have stuck with you.

Yes soulfood was one of those movies that make you stop and say.... hmmm I need to change some things. My grandmother has been gone a minute and so has a lot of those traditions but I still see some of those habits show up during the holidays.
Kicker or Cutter - I call this honesty
I’ve evaluated my new normal routine and I’ve noticed that I am a cutter. I know that long-lasting change works better for me when I take it one step at a time. Instead of going cold turkey, I’m intentionally cutting my sugar down to 30–50g a day. This lets me stay consistent, avoid the extreme cravings and ‘rebound’ moments, and build a habit I can stick with for the long run. For me, slower and steadier progress means I can actually enjoy the process while still moving toward my health goals.”

I love this! I am recording my 7 day challenge to see where I am and how to adjust. Thanks for sharing. I know when I put my mind to it I stay consistent but Life will happen and I feel like I am back at square one.
