Resolved -13 Resolutions for Life by Orrin Woodward Book recommendations by @Philip Brittain! Thank you sir!! 📘 SUMMARY — Resolved: 13 Resolutions for Life by Orrin Woodward Orrin Woodward builds this book on the legacy of the Founding Fathers’ personal resolutions—practices they lived by that shaped their character, leadership, and destiny. He argues that success is never an accident of talent; it is the result of intentionally building a life around principles that form a strong inner constitution. He presents 13 Resolutions, grouped into three major categories: 1. Private Achievements (Character & Personal Integrity) These resolutions deal with mastering oneself before attempting to lead others. Woodward teaches that transformation begins within, and without inner discipline no outer success can stand. Key principles include: - Purpose: Defining a clear mission for one’s life. - Character: Doing what is right regardless of pressure or reward. - Attitude: Guarding thoughts, emotions, and mindsets that shape destiny. - Courage: Acting in the face of fear and pursuing excellence. Woodward insists that character is the foundation on which all leadership is built. 2. Public Achievements (Relationships & Influence) Once personal mastery is established, one must learn to relate, communicate, and influence with integrity. Important themes: - Relationships: Building meaningful, loyal, and empowering connections. - Friendship: Being intentional about the circle you allow around you. - Communication: Speaking with clarity and listening with respect. - Conflict Resolution: Handling disagreements without destroying unity. Woodward emphasizes that leadership grows through service, empathy, and the ability to inspire others. 3. Leadership Achievements (Legacy & Contribution) The final category focuses on impact—how you lead, serve, and leave the world better than you found it. Core ideas include: - Financial Discipline: Managing resources with wisdom. - Systems Thinking: Understanding how decisions affect long-term outcomes. - Legacy: Living a life that outlasts you. - Compassion & Service: Using influence to help others reach their potential.

The other powerful companion to Resolved that I find incredibly powerful is Launching A Leadership Revolution by Orrin Woodward and Chris Brady. 3 key topics in that book changed how I lead and view leadership in general. They define Hunger as the foundation of leadership. The tri-lateral leadership ledger is an amazing tool to measure your leadership effectiveness. And they also discuss the 5 levels of influence along with the 3 levels of motivation. Some really powerful stuff!
