Getting in the uprights and membrane
Hey y’all here’s a little update …got the uprights in today and membrane. Will be putting base rock in tomorrow and the bottom 2x6 base plate joining the uprights. Then we’ll start prepping the pallets… hope you find these updates helpful as well as entertaining!!

Yes, Sharon it is possible to put the membrane down first and make a hole in the membrane and then put your post into the hole . In our case, it just seemed easier though to just put the post in and then cut the membrane to go around the sides and back of the pole
Started the new Hobbit Hut today
Heya, I started the new hut today. Tomorrow I’ll be laying down a membrane and cutting a hole in the membrane where the upright will go and then putting the upright in concrete then we’ll put in some drain rock and lay down some tea by fours to attach our wooden floor then will start putting in our pallets and will work on the roof and get that all done before we do any of the Cob work. I’ll be documenting the process that you all can see how it progresses.

Cob oven in LA
Hey y’all, i’m down in LA now visiting the Oven. We built here a few months ago seeing how it’s doing after being rained on. It never received a code concealer so some of the plaster came loose so I just mixed up some plaster with sanding clay and put that on there to screw it out and when it dries will go ahead and put the oil sealer on it’s ideal to have a roof over it though hopefully it’ll happen as well

Cool glad you like Shannon!
Roof beams
Got the roof beams up just in time before the sun set. They went up pretty quick and was pretty easy to do by myself as the joist hangers were already attached to the hub, I could just slide the beams in place and then climb up on the ladder and screw them in.

Great Martin! Looks great! Now you’re gonna get the 2x6 outside fascia boards on, and the inner ring. Are you going to use plywood over that, or do you have access to milled wood?

Curious what kind of insulation you’re planning on using? I assume at this point you are going to continue working on the roof before you do the insulation and any more of the framing down below?
