Wide awake club
Anyone else wide awake? It's currently 2am here and I'm in need of some fun! If Recalibrate Outdoors was to have a mascot, what would it be?

It's been a shit day 🤨
Well, today has been a rather shit one in the grand scheme of things. A funeral to go to of a friend who had passed and then I've recently been going through a redundancy process for a job that I loved and supported my mental health. Days like this can really make you question life a bit, but I've been spending the day attempting to Recalibrate and it has been difficult. Today, actually, what I've needed is a good greet (cry for those of us not in Scotland) and some sleep. I needed to let myself feel what I've been holding inside for a few weeks now; stress from the redundancy and grief for my friend. It hurts, I won't lie but I'm willing to feel it and go through it. It's part of being human and perhaps this is a part of recalibrating through this period of time. So, I'm not posting this for sympathy or attention, purely just to share a realisation that perhaps sometimes we truly need to FEEL and not focus on coping methods. We don't always need to 'cope', sometimes we need to feel to move forward. Take care peeps, stay wild 🌱

You take care of yourself too, you're so right, we have to be ready to feel things and not just block them all out. 🤗

Mt. Lemon. Beautiful hidden lake This is about an hour from the Saguaro National Park . Snow was melting but the lake was about 1000 feet below. Absolutely breathtaking and the air was Nice and Cool .

Looks stunning! We have a forest near us but it's all managed woodland so the trees are all in nice straight lines😁
Mini-Challenge #7 - The Sunrise Reset!
Challenge: Watch a sunrise this week — no scrolling, no soundtrack, just you and the morning light. Goal: Notice how it feels to start your day intentionally rather than reactively. Why it works: Morning light can help balance our circadian rhythm, it sharpens focus, and supports a reset in your inner compass before the day hijacks it! Breathe deeply, accept thoughts as they come through your consciousness and let them flow out and if you want, you can add in some light flow movement to awaken the body, push blood around the system and get it ready for the day ahead. In the UK, we don't get a lot of Vitamin D around this time of year, so it's important to be in the sun / light where possible. 😌

Yeah, it helps if you can be somewhere that has a horizon, rather than just the house next door! 😉

@Lisa O'Brien yeah, we have a few areas a short drive away and I do prefer it this time of year as the bad weather keeps most people indoors so there's no crowds 😁 I lived on the south coast for a number of years and even if it's all built up right to the beach you could always have the town at your back and looking out the horizon just stretches out before you 😍
Books on being outdoors...
OK I know it's a bit counterintuitive to talk about reading about being outdoors but then you can say that goining online to discuss being outdoors is the same! 😉 Buuuut, I'm a real "give me proof not just anecdotes" nerd and I find that there are books that have collated the scientific evidence on how being outside can help us rebalance. So, 2 I've currently go on the go, 'Good Nature' by Professor Kathy Willis' which looks at the science behind being in nature. The other one is 'in Praise of Walking' by Shane O'Mara, a professor of neuroscience. Both of these give the evidence of what happens to our brains in those activities outside which gives me the push to get back outside on a regular basis. Anyone else got any other suggestions?
