Longest OC1 paddle so far
With my 30 mile race coming in October, I went out today to try and hit 15 miles. Unfortunately I only got to 11. Though, It was not due to fatigue rather than time. Still, This is the longest and farthest I have paddled before. I am proud of myself, and can tell that all of my training from the Paddle Skool and Tek is really paying off. I have a lot to improve on and will always keep learning and pushing ahead. This workout I was in Zone 2 for 93.8% of the time. 140 AVG HR Max Speed 7.1 mi/h "must have been down wind" This will be my first paddle race other than a dragon boat, so my first Outrigger race. It is a mixed race with any time of paddle craft so we will be fighting with single blade River Hawks, "if you know you know". We will be on a Gemini OC2 and I have the pleasure to be paddling with an experience and very fast paddler. We expect to be able to complete it within 3ish hours. The goal is to finish and no huli! I would love to hear all of your first Outrigger race stories! Please do share!

Water system for OC1/OC2, 30 Mile Race Tips?
Hey Paddle Skool, I am training for my first 30 mile race on an OC2 "Gemini" and am looking into a water system that I can bungee onto the canoe. I am totally open to recommendations, something that is 2L. This race will take roughly around 3ish hours I think? I have never done one before, I would love any extra tips or gear suggestions! Possibly electrolytes to add or whatever you may suggest. The race: https://racetothedome.org/ Thank you so much!

After a bit of digging, any reason to not wear the backpack type if I were to wear a waist PDF? Chafing maybe? And how do you secure or attach your water mouth thing so it doesn't fall into the nasty river water. (I don't want super powers from the Missouri River) 😅

@Tek Li Thanks, I am going with one that I can strap in and will get a magnetic hose clip thing for my shirt. Will order one and do another 2 hour paddle to make sure it works well, 2.5L. 😁 I think I may be overthinking this whole thing after paddling for 2 hours today, this is maybe 3ish hours total. And thanks for the suggestions I am going to get some Tailwind Nutrition. I am so excited! I have to get my sleep in order at least 5 days leading up (We happen to have tickets to Chapel Roan the night before.. funny how that works) and my hydration.

Last Monday's OC style 500m pErg had me barely breaking 2:00 - it's frustrating, but I'm shaking it off and keeping the grind going. The real highlight this week was our V6 session at Catalina on Tuesday - it was AMAZING! Everyone was dialed in, we caught waves perfectly, conditions were huge, and you could literally feel Mikey's excitement from the steering seat. Those are the moments that remind you why we do this. Saturday brought another solid training session with Eri and Kilohana, focusing on blending our timing together. I switched onto the Vega Arc for a 16-mile out-and-back, working through boat changes and getting race-ready for Catalina next weekend. Everything's clicking into place. Sunday wrapped up the week with Eri and me coaching Dragon Warriors as we gear up for the NorCal Dragon Boat Festival. Balancing all the coaching with my own training has been exhausting, but seeing everyone progress makes it worth it! 🏆 MONTHLY PRIZES - TOP CONTRIBUTORS 🏆 Winners announced September 30th at 5PM PST! 1. **FIRST PLACE**: 4 weeks of Personalized Training Program ($400 value) 2. **SECOND PLACE**: 2 weeks of Personalized Training Program ($200 value) 3. **THIRD PLACE**: Gift a month of TLC Skool Community to a friend ($62 value) Prizes must be redeemed within the following month 👇 COMMUNITY QUESTION 👇 What's your biggest paddling pet peeve that teammates do?

@Lexi O Same! And sometimes you hear the ice inside of it 😅Hopefully we aren't doing 2k's+ that day. We have a unwritten rule of no metal water bottles, and if someone does happen to bring (because we all need water) we suggest they use a tip guard or something to help brace it against the wall so it stops clanking/rolling! 😁

@Tek Li Your persistence and grind is motivating and rubs off on all of us! Congrats on the sub 2 TT! and of course the Kula Anela race! Is a V6 the same as an OC6? I keep hinting to local paddlers that I want to put an OC6 crew together for Chattajack next year. I would have to learn how to steer it 😅 Sometimes I get way too inspired than my skill level allows. 16-miles in a surfski sounds brutal! Was done in the ocean!?!?!?! I have to still figure out a time to knock out my 15 mile test but at least its in a lake 🤣 Good luck Dragon Warriors in NorCal! You all are going to crush! And also, good luck in Catalina! Is that an OC race? Community Question: "What's your biggest paddling pet peeve that teammates do?" I have two 😅 Chatting while the coach is answering a question. Half the boat often can’t hear, and is disrespectful to the person asking, to the coach, and honestly the rest of the boat who may have the same question. This is my big one! Paddlers yelling uncalled for "motivating sayings” during a race or high-intensity piece. Call me crazy, but during those moments the focus should be on syncing with the crew and listening to the Coach/Caller/Steer. If you’ve got the energy to yell, then you’re probably not putting all of it into your stroke. To me, it shows a lack of discipline. Photo: random photos from the last week or so.
