Designing a Garden Space in Hometown
There's been an empty lot of 4 baseball fields worth of dirt in my city in the middle of an suburban field. I want to research and design a green space, garden, park and teaching garden for the community. The space has bothered me since I was a young girl, I even wrote a letter to the mayor at the time when I was 8 years old! I wanted to hear your thoughts! What would you put in a community garden? What design features could facilitate a educationally productive and safe third space? What features allow for spiritual, community, or personal growth? For example, creeks and ponds have a reflective and introspective quality to them. Or parks with a diversity of trees and paths allow for meandering and heterogeneity in the space. Oak trees make me feel like my ancestors are holding me.
