Applied for early social security at age 62 on August 3rd...
The Denver, Colorado is reviewing my application and they say they will complete in 30 days. I do not work anymore and my last 2-3 years income was less than $3,000/year. I have two minor boys (age 17 & 14) and I have a scheduled appointment over the phone on Sept. 3rd to apply for children benefits. I am married so I plan to ask for child in care benefits for my wife during the September 3rd interview. Simple question, how can I prepare for the September 3rd meeting? How is the Denver district office (should they finish within 30 days)?

Hello Ed: I had the phone interview with Social Security and everything seemed to go well. Just some general questions about my children. During the call, I asked to apply for the child in care benefits for my wife, as well, because my youngest son is 14 years old and she is not working. They asked me for to deliver original copies of our marriage certificate, original copies of my wife's passport & green card, and an original copy of her birth certificate. I brought all the originals to the local social security office last week and they made copies of the originals. I thought they may ask a question or two but only made copies of the originals and said we were done. On the phone interview, the lady told me that we would be getting the family maximum in this case and told me the exact amount. Originally my portion of the social security to get paid was indicated on my online SS account and it said would be deposited in my bank account around the third week of October. Now when I go into my account in the SS system all the information about the planned payments has disappeared and it just says "Social Security (Retirement) - Active. My question to you is what are the next steps from the Social Security side and how long does it take for all this to be processed with payments starting? Will it still be around the third week of October? When can I expect to hear from Social Security?

Thank you for the excellent insight and advice, Ed. I just checked the SS site again today and my social security scheduled payment is back as previously so something is moving. I will be patient, follow your advice, and let you know how all this goes!
