Feedback on your struggles with Upwork
Hey all, I want to gather some feedback from people who are either starting their freelancing journey on Upwork or are seasoned vets. When you provide answers to these questions please include your experience level on Upwork (number of jobs, time on platform) 1. What is the number one confusion point for you with how to write better proposals? 2. Do you ever think about how to optimize your profile? 3. Do you feel you have a strong grasp on going from initial message to closed deal? 4. Do you focus on more proposals or better proposals 5. Do you boost every time? Only sometimes? Would love to hear from yall @Ryan Nolan

@Ryan Nolan Last month or so I’ve been hyper-focused on interviewing and interview prep for a full-time gig, so I haven’t put any effort into Upwork. That said, I did spend some time (and money) setting things up and applying for 5-10 gigs before I got side-tracked. So based on that: 1. What is the number one confusion point for you with how to write better proposals? Deciding between super-detailed and extensive, versus quick and impactful to grab their attention without getting too much into the weeds.  2. Do you ever think about how to optimize your profile? I definitely spent some time on this based on direct feedback from the group. 3. Do you feel you have a strong grasp on going from initial message to closed deal? I haven’t received any engagement on the 5-10 proposals I sent, so I haven’t been able to test my relationship building and or deal closing approach 😂 4. Do you focus on more proposals or better proposals? I definitely feel like volume is important, but maintaining quality can become very time-consuming. Even in my limited experience this was becoming apparent. 5. Do you boost every time? Only sometimes? Boosted to the top every time. * I feel like my profile is ok. That said, being brand new without ratings/reviews seems like a major hurdle. After I land a full-time gig and I revisit this, I’m considering paying a friend (or two, or three) to “hire” me and leave at least one review each. With the cost of connects (which we all agree are important), there’s no reason for someone who’s brand new not to do this.

Live Call 2/25 (Notes and More)
Returning Members @Ken Rodgers @Ryan Steggerda @Alfred Alonso @Matt Payne @Adam Schreiner Also welcome to our New Members @Mounika A @Asad Ullah @Abdul Ahad Notes from the call -> We reviewed a real proposal from Ken: 1. https://n8n.io/workflows/ -> Upload workflows here. It becomes a differentiator when applying to jobs 2. On Upwork look for company name or owner in reviews and use this 3. Add real examples to your workflows, put links from your results 4. Boost your proposals 5. Ken and Ryan S (Lantern) will review their profile Bios 6. Possible Example: upwork.com/freelancers/~011e040c544fcc3777

That example UW profile that Matt shared still makes me want to immediately delete my profile and hide under my desk 😂 😂 😂

I'm a bit late... But I think it's time to start jumping into it for some videos. Watching some demos, this seems like a huge opp for automations. What are your favorite usecases?

I gave Claude MCP access to Google Analytics and now I can pull whatever data or dimensions I need just by asking. I've also put CSVs with data exported from our DB into my Claude workspace folder and just chat with Claude about metrics/analytics. When time allows I can definitely see something like this being embedded in an n8n flow where other members of my team could engage with it via something like Slack or Telegram, almost RAG style. (I actually wanted to build this in Slack for the last HW assignment but I couldn't get the Slack trigger node to "verify" quick enough. Ultimately I had to insert the token AND "signing secret" into that particular node for it to work. You must have done that before recording your video so it took me a while to figure it out, lol).

@Ryan Nolan You def added then token, which was needed for the regular slack nodes and the slack trigger. But, the trigger also needed the "signing secret" to successfully verify. I guess bc when the webhook event gets sent to the n8n callback URL, the trigger node has to authenticate with the signing secret to receive it. The regular send/read message slack nodes apparently only need the token.
