Geofencing warrant
Years ago, when I was a Digital Forensic Analyst, I was exploring options in a case where I was trying to pinpoint certain people in certain locations. Unfortunately, cell towers were limited in these sticks and I had limited info to process. Then.. A Marshal walked by and asked what I was working on. I explained, and he came back with the geofencing request idea. It was the first time I had heard of this and I was not so surprised in finding out that certain services could pinpoint you based on answering the question, "Which accounts using your service were located between these coordinates 'xxxxxx, xxxxxx' between the hours ox Xam and Xpm on THIS date." < very loose verbiage here. Wow. I shouldn't be so surprised, right? The ongoing collection of personal data is neverending. How could this NOT be a search, is my question. So now, do you think we cover the area of collecting "tower dumps"? Wouldn't this be very close to a geofence? Read the new ruling on this here: Court rules that law enforcement’s use of “geofence warrant” was a “search” | SCOTUSblog https://share.google/Lwu0k19PRCIM9iZJI What says you all?

Well stated. A backwards search of sorts - So a search warrant allowing data collection of a mass of unknown persons. How can this be implemented? It really can't if the law is to list a targeted person by name to gain a search warrant on their data. First collect a large data dump. Second narrow to the targeted.
Free Tools
Did you know that you can join SANS for free and gain access to free tools? You can. I did, am pleasantly surprised and will likely use some of these in my current position at work. Check this out -see pic. I think it's time to start doing some Free Tool Tuesdays with some of these. Planning on trying the Android triage tool 1st. Likely this is (havent downloaded and tested yet..) a tool to create an Android backup via adb (android debug bridge) and will require that you know the passcode to do so. What I am wondering is if there is a feature that will parse in some way, even if a rudimentary file system-type menu. Pop quiz - if this is a tool to use adb to create a backup, what will you have to do to the phone to allow the connection?

Suggestion from me to you: Anthropic Academy and free AI classes
So you don't have AI education but you need to start somewhere. First, let's learn from the most used AI tools out there. My suggestion - start with the 13 classes (maybe 17 - I saw that listed further down the landing page) from Anthropic. Multiple tracks to start with depending on your level of starting knowledge. Why am I saying this? Because, as I have said before - you need some sort of AI education to get your foot in the door at most places these days. So, go for what is free and make sure if you have had this type of education in college, list it on your resume! Start here - https://pasqualepillitteri.it/en/news/371/anthropic-academy-free-courses-claude PS: to join for the Free Tool Tuesday->level up! I will send a certificate from Mahan Academy with my signature - and we can link up on LinkedIn. -Amanda
