Holiday Highs and Lows
Holidays are for connection, entertaintainment, exploring, making memories and FOOD! We did ALL of these on our holiday (plus we won’t mention the bickering 😆) but the food is always a highlight! The healthy eating goes out the window in favour of takeout and pizza at the beach. What does your food diet look like when you’re on holiday?

@Krista Melanson one of the fave dishes when I had a restaurant!

@Krista Melanson the first was in the 'bohemian' suburb of Melville in Johannesburg. The second one was in the countryside - lovely setting. Bistro food. Had fun!
BANNED WORDS
I'm obsessed with a number of things (that have had me create my Skool). They are: food, and words. So I came across a Jamie Oliver post about the words he's banned from his staff members using. Then I dug deeper, and found more. Some of them are indeed eeek-inducing. But here's a question: which word do you find a bit, erm, unlovely? I'd sincerely love to know - and I'll add them to my list! Oh, and here's my so-far list: moist crevice rimming gush encrusted, minge (it's a baking term ) flange stuffed gash smeared proper rustic scrummy

Kinda fail / kinda win!!
Today I made us a pizza for dinner - here’s the good, the bad, and the ugly!! 1. Homemade pizza dough - 1 c flour, 1tsp yeast, 1/2 c water, 1tsp salt etc 2. Plain old canned tomato sauce with two cloves garlic, a lot of Tabasco, some brown sugar, some hot honey 3. 4 slices of bacon chopped up, sautéed with 1/2 a good sized onion. Drained after cooking. 4. Shredded pizza mozzarella in a bag, and a hand full of mini bocconcini Flattened the dough out to about 12-14 inch pizza. Spread the sauce on thickly while hot and this may have been my downfall. Spread the bacon and onions all over. Topped with a layer of mozzarella, not too thick. Then bocconcini. Then a full layer of pepperoni entirely covering the pizza! Heated my pizza stone in a 550° convection oven. It was great but the dough didn’t really cook much on the bottom. The top was crispy and beautiful but the bottom was not great. The combo of the sautéed bacon/onion mixture, the sweet and spicy sauce and the cheese and pep - probably the best pizza I have ever made (if the crust had cooked properly)!! Billy loved it, he agreed the flavour was exceptional!! Good thing it was a thin crust! And didn’t take a picture!!

@Krista Melanson 🥰
Ever noticed how a meal can change the tone of a relationship?
Not just what’s on the plate —but how it’s made, shared, and experienced together. The pace. The attention. The small moments in between. Sometimes it’s not the food itself, but the feeling around it that stays with you. I’ve been thinking about how the way we experience food often mirrors how we show up in relationships —present, distracted, guarded, or, generous. 👉 I’m sincerely curious:what’s a meal that genuinely shifted how you felt around someone?
