How I get Sh*t done as an ADD entrepreneur
As some of you might know, I grew up with ADD, but only got diagnosed around age 21. That meant that during primary school and high school I struggled a lot with staying focused at school. But I didn't know why and I didn't know how to deal with the problem. I did okay in school, but it took a lot of effort, specifically for maths and science lessons. Today I am truly grateful for my ADD and the way my brain works, I have learned how to deal with it and how to optimise my day for maximum efficiency. I have 3 simple rules that I live by and that have helped my tremendously over the years to increase my productivity and enjoyment in everything I do. 𝟭) 𝗠𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗶𝘁 𝗳𝘂𝗻 I genuinely hate doing admin work. But it's what keeps you in business, so even if you hate it, it still needs to be done. So one day I asked myself "How can I make this more fun?". So I put on my headphones and started playing some of my favourite Lord of The Rings and Harry Potter soundtracks in the background. There something about putting on headphones that allow me to block out distractions instantly and those soft, epic and magical tunes in the background that sweep me into flow state. I now have an 18 hour long playlist with all kinds of cinematic music and music from artists like Ludovico Einaudi, etc. 𝟮) 𝗗𝗼𝗻'𝘁 𝗷𝘂𝗺𝗽 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝘅𝘁 This one speaks for itself and you might be thinking DUH. But you would be surprised at how often you get interrupted by random thoughts, other people, notifications, ... and how long it takes you to return to your flow state. Besides turning notifications off and letting people know that they can't disturb you, if for example you're wearing your headphones. One other cure for this is a concept that's called "Timeboxing". I've learned about timeboxing from Nir Eyal (writer of "Indistractable"). And it essentially says that you should do batch work as much as possible and at the right timing.
@Alena Sladkovská It becomes a lot easier with consistency, just putting in the reps. Adding a buffer can be really helpful, but like you say you need to be watchful that the buffer doesn't become the majority of the time scheduled haha! It's not about getting things perfectly or even about getting everything done in the smallest amount of time possible. So don't beat yourself up if you don't get everything done in the scheduled time. The purpose of sticking to the scheduled time for a task or batch of related tasks is: 1) Becoming more mindful of how much time you actually need for that specific task, so you can become more efficient and realistic in your scheduling. 2) Becoming more intentional and focused on what actually moves the needle and doing those things first, because time is limited 😃
✋ The "just touch it" rule for habits that actually stick
I have a rule I live by for any habit I'm trying to build. 👉 Just touch it. 🎹 Want to play piano every day? Touch the piano. Hands on the keys. That counts. If you want to play for an hour after that, great. If you want to walk away after five seconds, also great. 🧘 Want to meditate? Sit on the cushion. Ass down. That counts. Get up immediately if you want to. 🤸 Want to move your body every morning? Stand up and stretch your arms over your head. Done. Most people fail at habits because they set the bar at "do the full thing well, every time." That bar is high enough that any rough day breaks the streak. And once the streak breaks, the habit dies. The bar that builds habits is "show up at all." A 10-second yoga flow is infinitely more valuable than a 30-minute flow you skipped because you didn't have time. 🔥 The streak creates the identity. 🔥 The identity creates the consistency. 🔥 The consistency creates the actual results. Touch it. Every day. Even if all you do is touch it. 💬 What's one habit you keep dropping because you set the bar too high? Drop it in the comments and let's set a "just touch it" version.
✋ The "just touch it" rule for habits that actually stick
That's great advice! The habit I keep dropping and picking up again is stretching first thing in the morning. "Just touch it" is great advice, because the reason I keep dropping it because I tend to just get my ass in the chair first thing and I simply forget, until it's too late and I don't have enough time left.
@Bill Widmer I’ve tried that to put my yoga mat in plain sight, but my wife can’t stand clutter haha so she always moves it out of sight again
Momentum Monday: What's Your Big Goal This Week? 🚀
Happy Monday, Founders! You know what time it is - time to announce your goal for the week to hold each other accountable! This week, I am beginning a cold email campaign for my B2B SaaS SEO/AEO services. I learned a ton about how to do this from the course I'm taking by @Mark Webster over at Authority Hacker. My hope is that I'll close a client from this by the end of next week. But we shall see! What's your one thing this week?

@Alena Sladkovská It’s important to remember that it’s impossible for you to serve every Czech person with ADHD, and for that other person as well. @Elizabeth Hadzic said it well that some people will vibe with your stuff and other people will vibe with the other person. And after all, isn’t her existence a real validation that there’s an actual need for what you’re doing and that there’s already people out there paying for those services?

My one thing this week is getting back to starting new conversations and eventually inviting those people to calls. But I need to ask better questions before I invite them, so getting on a call with me doesn’t feel like a “would be nice to do” but a “must do” next step for their business. The aim to start 10 new conversations over the week. 🙏
Reflection Friday: Did you do your ONE thing?
Happy Friday, founders! Monday you committed. Today you tell the truth. Did you do it? Yes or no. No judgement, just data. Then, one line on what pattern you noticed in yourself this week. Drop it in the comments!

@Alena Sladkovská thanks for giving me a nudge haha 😁 I had a busy week catching up with everything off Skool, so next week I could be here distraction free. I completed everything I set out to do (3 prices quotes, 1 design and adjusting an existing design and answering some long overdue emails) What stood out for me this week is that I really need to protect my time. I scheduled an entire day to work from home (Friday) and all week I was being tempted to fill it with other to do’s. I resisted my temptation by reminding myself why I had scheduled that work from home day -> to be able to commit to Skool distraction free next week

@Alena Sladkovská Well done Alena!!! 🤩
Friday Reflection Time! 🎉
Happy Friday, Founders! Before you head into the weekend, take 2 minutes and reflect: → What worked this week that you want to do more of? → What drained your energy that you want to do less of? → What's one thing you're grateful for right now? And did you complete Monday's commitment? The founders who grow fastest aren't the ones who hustle hardest. They're the ones who actually pay attention to what's working and what isn't. 👇 Drop your reflection below. Have a great weekend!

What worked this week: I got most of my planned workouts in this week despite being a busy week. I stopped working early on Thursday to pickup my daughter a bit earlier from daycare to spend time together and play. What drained your energy: I didn't stick to my schedule enough. I had a great week landscaping-wise, but I worked too many hours. That meant that I didn't see my daughter as much, I had to skip some workouts and I didn't get as much progress on my Monday Commitment. So after writing this comment, I will plan the upcoming week, including the workouts and time with the family, define what the baseline will be next week to move me towards my goals. And then stick to it. What's one thing you're grateful for right now? Those couple of hours with my daughter on Thursday are the highlight of my week. So I'm really grateful for being an entrepreneur and having the freedom to decide to stop working earlier when I want to.
