I used to think contributing to my retirement account meant I was financially secure. Then life humbled me.
One thing losing my federal job taught me is this... 𝐀 𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐚𝐥𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐚𝐦𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠. Like many people, I spent years believing that if I was contributing to retirement accounts consistently, I was automatically “good.” Then life happened.... Market uncertainty happened. Stress happened. Real conversations with people nearing retirement happened.💜 And I started realizing how many hardworking people are quietly anxious about retirement. Not because they feel like they failed. Not because they feel like they were irresponsible. But because most people were never taught how retirement actually works beyond “save money and hope it grows." That’s what led me into becoming a Financial Specialist focused on retirement protection education. What I’ve learned is that retirement planning is not just about numbers. ✨It’s about lifestyle. ✨Peace of mind. ✨Reducing financial stress now and in the future. ✨Protecting what you worked decades to build. People want to know: • Will my money last? • What happens during market downturns? • Can I protect some of what I’ve built? • What does stability actually look like in retirement? These are real conversations more people are starting to have now. The interesting thing is… once people begin learning about retirement protection strategies and how different financial vehicles work, they often start looking at retirement completely differently. Not from fear......But from awareness. 💜😊What amazes me most is how their faces change from stressed out to relaxed and filled with hope when they realize to protect their retirement savings cost them nothing to do. This is a free service. Yet so many people just don't know about it. Financial education truly changes perspectives and futures.💜 So I am curious, has your view of retirement changed over the last few years too?

As a (mostly) retired financial planner, I know there are people who have been talking about this for a long time, but most people aren't talking about this because they aren't talking about money at all. That's part of my mission and many financial planners and financial educators' missions. We can't change things without talking about them. I'm a huge believer in one-size does not fit all and every product exists for a reason. The fact is that the people who have been doing the research and presentations about retirement protection strategies get attacked because of the fees commonly associated with many of them. 🤷‍♀️ At least in the US, the majority of people think financial planning or retirement planning is about investments (it's not) and that means getting the highest return at the lowest cost and not paying anyone because they can do it themselves. [actual image of many investors doing it themselves attached 😁] (Spoiler alert: they can, but not as effectively or strategically.) Sorry if that sounds ranty; I just have a huge passion for helping women get to the next level of their version of financial freedom!

Social Media vs. Skool
You may have heard that I deactivated some of my social media accounts. I've kept... - YouTube for retargeting - Facebook for Meta Ads But everything else I am taking a break from. Call is midlife brain fog, or raising cortisol levels, but it just doesn't give me joy anymore. Plus, I receive much more organic growth from Skool in our communities, than I have from the 7 years I've been on social media for business. Check out these facts between Social Media vs. Skool. (see infographic below) You've got to show up somewhere for your business...why not where you can see the pay-back and it gives you joy. What's your plan in 2026? PS - originally adapted from a post Calvin Hollywood post on Skoolers (but with a Brenda/Midlife spin)

Hi, I'm Virginia, a retired financial planner because of ongoing health issues. I have a financial coaching business but have not been doing much with it because of vision issues (temporary but going on 3 years so...) I volunteer with some financial literacy programs and I absolutely love that work. I'd love it even more if I got paid! :D I'm thinking about starting a printables line.
