Youtube VS Copyright
Hello, hope you all re having an amazing friday! 🔥 I wanted to ask in this community since I know especially @Nikola Gugoski and @Christian Lie among probably many others have a lot of experience with this. I love using examples from famous bands/artists when showing stgh on the guitar, its how I ve been teaching 1o1 here in Vienna all my life, however on youtube when I do that there is this Copyright Claim hovering over my head, some videos get strikes others dont. I dont use original recordings, I simply play the gutiar parts and talk yet those get copyright strikes. I want to record some covers/song breakdowns in the future but dont know if theres any point. How do you guys go about that? Is it not a big deal since it only affects (currently nonexistent) monetisation, or could it end up getting me banned from the platform ? Did you guys really go all the length of attaining official permissions for using tracks? D greatly appreciate some insights from people with more experience. :) Thanks in advance 🙏

@Clemens Hackmack Yes, the lines are very blurry and don't make much sense most of the time. And i've had YouTube premium by the way. And their definition of "download" is a little fuzzy too. If i remember correctly you can download videos into a folder on YouTube. Which again doesn't make any sense.

@Clemens Hackmack Yes, i do that too. Slowing clips down or speeding them up slightly. Not sure how effective it is though.

I have been taking a deep dive into Time and it's guitar solo, trying to break down and analyze each lick it is made up of to better understand solos in general. You can't really study Time without also studying Breathe as its reprise is the unofficial final verse of Time. I stumbled upon a reddot post comparing the prose of both of these songs and it got my story teller brain working and I figured this was the best place to share my thoughts. The introspective nature of this era of Pink Floyd's lyrics are honestly my pick for the greatest of all time. Simple prose almost like limericks, but they really packed a punch. Breathe and Time parallel stories of individuals making two different decisions early in their life. With a 5 act structure illustrating how they different and similar these paths can be. Breathe is somewhat optimistic but also mysterious enough in verbiage that it can be taken as a tale of optimism or caution. Time on the other hand is clearly cautionary and banally tragic. To keep this guitar related, this shows in the great chord progressions of both, with breathe being one of the most unique I've ever heard. Time is much more of faithful to a slow moving melancholic The protagonist of Breathe leaves home early and with ambition determined to decide his own fate Where as in Time they wait around for something to come to them In Breathe they make memories and enjoy life in their prime In Time they grow bored and waste their days until they realize their prime is almost over. In Breathe the now middle aged protagonists ambitions bury him into his work, as he presumably forgets to sit down and enjoy the life he's built. In Time the protagonist spends his middle age years trying to make up for the time he wasted. The ending of breathe seems more up to interpretation, At first I thought it was a song about how ambition can keep you away from what makes life great. As riding the tide let's you live long and fly high. But the protagonist did not make that choice, so he presumably rode the biggest wave and died early due to stress.

This definitely doesn't sound like a 5th grade report. I like that you share your thoughts on both the lyrics and chords. It all hangs together :) Time and the other songs on Dark Side has a universal quality because of the themes. Life, death, growing up and coming to terms with the shortness of life. Like you said, that's what makes it a masterpiece. I get goosebumps every time i listen to this. I prefer Animals over Dark Side though. Something about the music resonates more with me there. But Dark Side is definitely a classic too. What are your top 3 PF albums? 🎸

@Lucas Bryars Nice. I like Meddle too. I think a lot of people were sleeping on that album. Especially Echoes. It sounds a lot like their drawn-out progressive stuff from the early 70s.
Fooling around in Oslo (2016)
I've been recording videos as a hobby for a very long time. And i recently found this old vlog i made from 9 years ago. I had no clue what i was doing at the time. Just documenting the life in Oslo as a 21 year-old 😅 Do you have any unflattering videos of yourself from way back?

Changes are coming... 🎸🤘
Here are some changes that are coming to the group: - Less focus on guitar lessons, more fun. - I'm relaunching my old YT channel. So expect people from there to join soon and be kind to them. - For current students the lessons will continue per usual, but we'll stop posting homework here. - Potentially changing the name, description and look of the group. - If you have any inputs on what we can make the group better, let me know! We're in this together 😊

@Andy Quan Appreciate the kind words Andy :) I think i'll mostly post guitar and music oriented things. Things that are fun and interesting. So not much change from before regarding content.

@Clemens Hackmack Same here :) It will be fun.
Testing the SM57 🎤
Bought an SM57 the other day to level up the recording quality of my acoustic guitar. The Scarlett / Focusrite condenser mic has way more background noise than the SM57. So i might replace it in the future. What do you think? Have a great weekend :)

@Clemens Hackmack Gotcha :) I don't have too much issue with that anymore though. Having another mic and changing some things in the DAW helped a lot. Why aren't you using this preamp anymore by the way?
