Got A Book? Share It!
I have changed the self-promotion rule to "No self-promotion except books." That means you should not be in here pitching your course, your program, or your widget. But books are different. People are always looking for a good read, so if you have a book to promote. Go for it! In fact, do it now, right here, in the comments of this post!
@Sarah Dawkins Do you have a link so we can read your book description?
My Liturgy of Easy Walks: Reclaiming Hope in a world turned upside down After facing sudden loss of mobility after brain surgery to save her life, Marjorie has now regained much of her ability to walk (with support). Writing about her outings and lessons learned along the way are at the core of this story. She captures the kind of moments so many of us fail to notice while never forgetting to savor the miracle of being alive. These short meditations (liturgies) in this topical memoir invite you to take a welcome respite from a world turned upside down. The “easy walks” of the title reference both the Easy Walks book series she continues to add to as well as the small and larger insights she shares with us. https://www.amazon.com/My-Liturgy-Easy-Walks-Reclaiming/dp/B0BT76MVNN
Complain, Don't Whine
It's okay to complain, but not to whine. Complaining is talking about a problem to someone who can do something about it, or with the intention of doing something about it. Whining is simply talking about a problem for the sake of talking about a problem, but with no desire to do anything about it. In this video I explore the importance of complaining, and why we need to avoid whining. It's only a few minutes long, and I encourage you to watch it, and comment below.
Businesses have a "complaints department" (whether they really deal with complaints or not) but no "Whining department' that I have found yet. My kids heard often, "When I hear whining I stop listening." Once they heard my reminder, they might have said the same thing, but that whining tone? Gone--they wanted me to listen to them. There are, as you mentioned, things in our lives that are not "fixable." When I hear someone talking about those aspects of their lives and then they say, "I shouldn't complain," I often respond, "Oh, I always feel better when I complain," Then they laugh. Which was my intent. So there is complaining, whining, and simply dealing with things we cannot change. Not sure what you call that last thing, but I am pretty sure it's a theme in the book I wrote (which I will post in the "Books" section)
@Michael Whitehouse indeed. Looking forward to more thoughts on the subject.
