Anthropic extended Claude Fable 5 access on all paid plans through July 19, the second extension in a week. Quick recap for the busy executive: Fable 5 launched in June. It went dark for 19 days under a government export control order, then returned July 1. The cutoff was July 7. Then July 12. Now July 19. After that, the model shifts to usage credits at $10 per million input tokens and $50 per million output tokens. That is real money if your team built daily workflows on it. Here is the governance lesson. If your business depends on one AI model, you do not have a strategy. You have a subscription. Deadlines move. Pricing changes. Access can vanish overnight. The companies that stay steady are the ones with documented AI vendor policies, fallback models, and cost controls already in place.

Here's the difference: - Chat = quick answers, brainstorming, back and forth - Work = you hand it a goal, it hands you the finished product We're talking spreadsheets, decks, reports, documents, even interactive project trackers. It researches, pulls from your files and connected apps, and stays on a project for hours, checking in with you along the way instead of making you babysit every step. Real talk: this isn't new territory. Anthropic's Claude Cowork has been doing this exact "give me an outcome, not a prompt" move for months. What's new is OpenAI catching up and putting it in front of millions of everyday users. What this means for you: - The skill that matters now isn't typing better prompts.
