Our Favourite Japanese Food Tournament 2026
Forget the Superbowl! Never mind the Winter Olympics! The real high stakes tournament event is here! The Japanese Language Learners Favourite Japanese Food Tournament is officially open!!! Our first battle (of many!) is Matcha Chiffon Cake vs Sukiyaki! 🔥 Round 1 — First Matchup 🔥 🍰 Matcha Chiffon Cake vs 🍲 Sukiyaki Sweet elegance versus comforting tradition. 🍰 Matcha Chiffon Cake (抹茶シフォンケーキ) Light, fluffy, and beautifully green, matcha chiffon cake combines the gentle bitterness of matcha with a soft, airy sponge texture. It's delicate, not overly sweet, and feels perfectly balanced — just like many Japanese desserts. Often served with cream or fruit, it’s a favourite for café visits and afternoon tea. This is Japanese dessert culture at its most refined. 🍲 Sukiyaki (すき焼き) Warm, rich, and deeply comforting, sukiyaki is a classic Japanese hot-pot dish. Thin slices of beef simmer with vegetables, tofu, and noodles in a sweet-savoury soy sauce broth. Traditionally, diners cook and share the meal together at the table — making sukiyaki not just food, but an experience. This is Japanese comfort food at its finest. 🗳️ Time to Vote! Which one wins this first battle? - The light, elegant sweetness of matcha chiffon cake? - Or the warm, savoury comfort of sukiyaki? Write your vote below and defend your choice in the comments! Let the tournament begin! 🔥🍜

Welcome New Members to Japanese Language Learners!
Introduce yourself and share a pic of something Japanese you own or something Japanese that you're interested in! Feel free to explain why you want to learn Japanese or what you like about Japan. Also, feel free to post any Japanese language questions you have. I'd be glad to answer them! As for me, I love learning Judo. Have you ever tried it? And I love Japanese literature, such as Kokoro by Natsume Soseki. Have you read any Japanese novels? I also really enjoyed Cowboy Bebop when it came out! Not the live action Netflix version! To start learning, I highly recommend Your 50 First Sentences Course: https://www.skool.com/japanese/classroom/fe1c2853?md=60ee3552d26e4ffcb910a86675e10f95 Arigatou, Joe Sensei.
