I did a soil test! Check it out. It's the #Activity from our first module #What's the Difference? Just by eyeballing it (and knowing that I live in the Mojave Desert), I'd say we have very SANDY SOIL (and specifically in my backyard's case, it's just dead dirt atm), which is defined in our readings as "High sand percentage (>70%). Drains quickly but may not retain nutrients well." But let's see what the numbers say. The measurements, after settling for 1 hour: SAND (bottom layer): 5 cm SILT (middle layer): 1 cm CLAY (top layer): .25 cm Total height of layers: 6.25 cm - % SAND=(sand height)/(total height) x 100 = 80% SAND - % SILT=(sand height)/(total height) x 100 = 16% SILT - % CLAY=(sand height)/(total height) x 100 = 4% CLAY
