Goddesses: Forged through the fire!
What a remarkable Conversations with the Goddess workshop we had today! I drew the Sedna card (Inuit Eskimo and Alaskan Goddess of the Sea) from the Goddess Guidance Oracle deck not once, but twice--and everyone's writing about infinite supply was beautiful, kismet, and connected. I'd love to share a tiny excerpt of my writing here and invite @Cate Fitt, @Susan Buniva, and @Erin N to do the same! Goddess, it has recently come to my attention that things in my life are not happening on my time-table, nor are they going according to plan. My plan, at least. I did not plan to be down for the count for 6 weeks nor to keep experiencing more f-ing growth experiences. Please advise. Your confused devotee, Valley Jane Dear Valley Jane, Goddesses are forged through the fire, not on the beach drinking mai-tais. Sedna found her power through the forced surrender of her deepest pain, creation is born from the destruction of what came before. Please release your old ideas about time or plans--clinging to them will only slow you down. Let go or be dragged! It's always right now now now where everything is perfect already because you are the soul you came here to be, in a constant state of becoming. Honey, give yourself grace for showing up in human form--a notoriously difficult situation to inhabit. You got this. Love always, G. Please join me for more Convos with the Goddess next week, 9/1 at 2 PM EST. Add to your calendar here! XOXO, Valley Jane

Lunar Eclipse Prompts
Hello writers! If you missed our lunar eclipse workshop yesterday, here are the prompts...it's not too late, the eclipse energy is still strong. Spend 8 minutes free-writing on the two questions below and share in the comments if you'd like. What right now is being eclipsed out? What right now is being eclipsed in? We'd love to read what you write :) Thank you @Lisa Loving, @Cate Fitt, and @Beth Jasper for your beautiful writing in the worshop...I'd love for you to share! Here's mine: What's being eclipsed out? Centuries of bullshit, co-dependency and people pleasing--even with my DOG! Over-editing. That eternal critic shapeshifter who sneaks around in different costumes. Can I eclipse out waiting for my ship to come in and learn to sail my own damn boat? Can I eclipse out the straight jacket of good girl, good wife, good mother? Can I eclipse out the illusion that I have to be good in order to be loved? What's being eclipsed in? Trust in the ever winding curvy-ass spiral road of my life. Trust that I won't accidentally Thelma and Louised myself off cliff or get stuck in the endless maze of traffic on 64. I'm eclipsing in trust in the sacred Goddess essence of my being in this transitory time of my life between known worlds and addresses. I eclipse in vigor and enthusiasm and exuberance for what I do, for what we share for being wholy alive. I eclipse myself back into the center of my very own life.

Lisa, I love your use of water in the first piece as a place of healing and growth. Similarly in the second piece, the way you used a cornucopia of abundance bursting with good works was magnificent.
A Tool for Healing
Hi writers! I wanted to share a chapter from my book Surrender Your Weapons: Writing to Heal, that explores a few areas in which I've needed healing and a few ways in which I've tried to heal. Spoiler Alert: writing wins! Has writing been a tool in your healing? I'd love to hear about it in the comments below! 🔱 A Tool for Healing 🔱 I am a recovering addict and a codependent emotional eater who has struggled to manage money. I’m a perfectionist with low self-esteem and impossibly high standards. I’ve had tumors, diseases, surgeries, and miscarriages. Several of my body parts have been sent to pathology. I have experienced loss, grief, heartbreak, anxiety, depression, existential angst, and the dark night of the soul. I’ve hated God and I’ve been sure God hated me. Healing, for me, is a mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual full time job. One I’ll never really be able to quit. I have tried and used 12-step recovery meetings, therapy, prayer, meditation, yoga, Rohun, past life regression, hypnosis, EMDR, mandalas, A Course in Miracles, church, synagogue, satsong, acupuncture, reiki, goddess dance, and witchcraft to try to heal my original and ancient wounds. All of these have helped and a few have even stuck, but the most consistent healing force in my life has been writing. Expressive writing. Free writing. Journaling. Keeping a diary. Whatever you want to call it. Writing has saved my life. Much has been written about the research-based positive healing impact writing has on the immune system, as well as the mental, emotional, and physical health of the writer. I’m thrilled scientists have evidence and numbers, but anyone who has used writing in their life consistently already knows. Writing heals. Of course, I have fought the writing process, too. Hard. To avoid writing I’ve taken up professional scrapbooking, stained glass making, basket weaving, crochet, addictions, bad jobs, and bad habits. And still, writing has been the healing modality of my life that I’ve returned to again and again. Writing can be a weapon if we use it against ourselves, but it is also a powerful medicine, an antidote to whatever our poison may be.

I completely agree that writing is a powerful tool in the arsenal of healing tools. It is hard for me to imagine my life without writing, therapy, and ultimately, a spiritual journey. I am so grateful for each of those tools.

I really like Erin's thoughts. I would also like thoughtful guidance and prompts related to writing poetry. Thanks for asking.
Then + Now
I was flat ironing my curly hair. I was a tantrica, starved for touch. I was a mystical wanderer with a big mortgage and a bigger house. I was a free spirit with ankle weights, credit cards, china platters of cheetohs and ho-hos to dull the ache of living in the half-life. I was chasing windmills of love in locked up rooms without any wind. I was the heavy t-shirts and yoga pants from box stores I hid myself in, horrified by the silhouette of my own body. I was the shadow hiding beneath the brilliance of my soul. Then, the breaking. I split, I fell, I bruised, I bled, I excavated, I broke open, I grew. I discovered my wings and not only my wings but my tail, glimmering like a mermaid slicing through the furious ocean, the dragon serpent soaring with the wind. Now, I am in my warrior queen era with tight black bodysuits, lightning in my ears, sticks wrangling my wild curly hair. Now, my heart is a candle, a firework, a bonfire. Seen and loved, caressed and adored, lit up from inside out and the outside in. Now, my heart is my signature, tender, glowing, a fierce flame of love and creation. Now I love the flesh of this human woman body, the mountains and valleys, the curves and boulders, the creaks and crevices, the delights of the goddess. Now, I am in my medicine woman era, living with and talking to and making art with the spirits and the trees, mounting the spirit horse and taking the reins. I am squeezing that rich, powerful flesh between my thighs and digging her hide with my heels. Giddy up girl....now it's time to fly! (Written and shared in last night's True Story circle! What is YOUR then and now??)

As I retire, writing is one of the things I most want more of in my life. I'm delighted to explore it in this community.
