The Heartbeat of Our Photography Community When I started Photography by Cristal, I aimed to create a refuge for those seeking stunning headshots without the hassle. It all began from my passion for capturing genuine moments and filling a gap within the busy digital landscape. Each member brings a unique story, enriching our journey. Together, we challenge norms and uplift each other, pushing boundaries in our personal branding. You’re not alone in this quest for that perfect image; we’re in this together! 📸 I’m So Glad You’re Here—Have You Explored the Classrooms Yet?.🎬
All of my classrooms and modules are open to every member at every level—because I’m here to support you—whether you want to show up looking your best, learn about photography and lighting, or explore new possibilities. And the best way I can help is when you tell me what you need. If you want to learn about professional headshots, photography, lighting, posing, or how to show up with confidence in front of the camera, everything is available to you right now inside the Classroom. You can explore real work and real journeys from members and projects like Carolina Pratt, Sabrina Gomez, and Gap Kids, along with experiences in Media, Scarlet, and CBS. You can also step into Your Pageant Journey, where I share guidance for contestants and families, and visit The Creative Lab, a space to experiment, learn, and explore new ideas in photography and visual storytelling. You don’t have to unlock anytging. You don’t have to wait.Just go to the Classroom and take a look around. I believe knowledge should be shared, and I want you to see my work, learn from my experience, and discover what’s possible for you too. And here’s something that worked really well—You can click on any highlighted hashtag below to explore more, see examples, and find the classrooms and conversations connected to each topic. Feel free to ask questions, share your thoughts, or let me know how I can help.I’m truly here to grow this community, serve its members, and help as many people as possible move closer to their dreams. Come explore the classrooms—you might find exactly what you’ve been looking for. #Creative Lab #Carolina Pratt N.M.S.U. Fantastic!!
The Power of Being Seen
The Power of Being Seen In this community, one of the most important things we do is notice each other. Not for being perfect.Not for being the loudest.But for showing up. When you take the time to comment, share an idea, encourage someone, or simply participate—you are contributing to something bigger than yourself. And that matters. I want every member here to know this: You are not invisible.Your presence is noticed.Your effort counts.

@Cristal Vancarson Morning!!
What Not to Wear for Your Headshot (From 30+ Years Behind the Camera)
1) Avoid Busy Patterns Why: They distract from your face and can look overwhelming on camera.Examples: - tiny florals - bold stripes - loud prints - heavy patterns Better: Solid colors or very simple textures. 2) Avoid Sleeveless Tops (Especially Under Harsh Lighting) Why: Overhead lighting can exaggerate shadows and make arms look different than they do in person.This is one of the most common concerns women mention. Better: - short sleeves - ¾ sleeves - a jacket, shawl, or light layer Layers are your friend. 3) Avoid All Black or All White (Without Contrast) Why: - all black can look flat - all white can wash you out - both can lose detail on camera Better: - jewel tones - soft colors - a contrast between top and background 4) Avoid Wrinkled or Ill-Fitting Clothes Why: The camera notices everything.If it doesn’t fit well, it shows. Better: - clothes that fit comfortably - freshly pressed outfits 5) Avoid Logos or Big Graphics Why: They pull attention away from your face.Your face is the brand — not the shirt. Better: - clean, simple clothing - minimal branding 6) Avoid Trendy Pieces That Date Quickly Why: Your photo should last for years. Better: - classic, timeless styles 7) Avoid Heavy or Shiny Fabrics Why: They reflect light in strange ways. Examples: - satin - sequins - shiny polyester Better: - matte fabrics - soft textures - Don’t worry — I guide you through all of this before your session so you feel confident and look your absolute best.
