📌 COMMUNITY UPDATE: PUBLIC/PRIVATE
Hello members, As ACE Adventure Canine grows, I want to make sure our community has the best chance to reach and inspire more outdoor-loving dog owners. Part of that vision is to share what we’re building here with a wider audience. With that in mind, I plan to make this group public on October 1st ⬅️ Here’s what that means for you: • Being public does not mean anyone can jump in. New people will still need to answer the screening questions and be approved before joining. • It does mean people outside the group can see a glimpse of what’s inside — the community vibe and the kinds of things we share here. They cannot comment or participate unless they become members. • You’ll always get advance notice of changes like this. • If you’ve shared anything you’d prefer to keep private, you’re welcome to edit or delete it before October 1. • Of course, you can also leave the group if being in a public community doesn’t feel right for you (though I would be sad to see you go 💚🐾). • Moving forward, please be mindful about details you share — stick with what you’re comfortable having public, and you can always message me directly for private conversations. My hope is that valued members like you will choose to stay and continue building this safe, supportive adventure space — now with a broader reach to inspire others. Thanks for being here, Maren (& Ivy)

🏆🎉 Recall Challenge Wrap-Up Party 🎉🏆
Six days, five challenges, one epic community effort — and wow, did you all show up for your dogs! 👏🐶💚 Over the week we had 12 participants in the comments — with LOTS of cheese sprinkled around 🧀, GIFs flying 🎭, and even one brave soul who made their very own post (complete with donuts 🍩… you know who you are 😉). That’s the real win: you showed up for your dogs, tried something new, and celebrated the little steps that build reliable recall. ✨ Prizes for All Finishers Everyone who completed the 5 days will get a special prize: 👉 The Fillable Recall Workbook — a handy resource to keep you practising and tracking your progress. 🥇 Fun Superlative Awards Because this challenge wouldn’t be complete without a few playful shout-outs: 🍩 Best Bravery Award → for posting your own thread (donuts forever!) @Debbie Allery 🧀 Most Cheese-Loving Commenter → for sprinkling extra cheese and sparkle in the chat @Rositsa Aleksandrova 🐕 Multi-Dog Medal → for working recalls with more than one pup @Éva Raposa 💡 Helpful Hero → for dropping the most insightful or supportive comment @Julie Stockton 🎁 And the Bonus Prize…One special participant will also get a sneak peek into the upcoming Recall Course — because you’ve clearly earned it. @Mariam Kipiani has already seen great results this week and has big adventures planned for next year. They’ll be safer (and have even more fun) with extra recall training 👏 ✨ A Final Aha: Reliable recall isn’t just one trick. It’s consistency, fun, jackpots, variety, play, and real-life practise layered together. That’s what makes your dog LOVE coming when called. 🐕💨 Arrrooooo! Maren & Ivy 🐾💚

This was a great mix of tips, and I love that I won an award! It was fun AND WORKED EFFECTIVELY with the clients' doggies I tested on. Despite it being quite simple, improvements were made with each of them. A favorite takeaway was and is that I can work on recall training with ANY client's dog without treats or going off leash. (I'd have to have special circumstances and permission to go off leash + treats would need to be obtained in advance and only those approved by the dogs' humans.) BUT to simply keep them on leash and work on recall together with praise as the reward, it could work safely for any dog without being likely to have any issues for any of their humans. So I am actually going to be making this a practice with ALL CLIENTS moving forward but confirming with them that it's OK just to be 100% sure. This is extra cool because typically I only work on training with those clients who would like that support or we do it from the beginning of the relationship together. By default I am "training" in a way because I'm awkwardly enthusiastic about praising desired behaviors. Funny enough, that alone can make a difference. A client asked me before, "Have you been training her?! She hasn't been pulling on the leash nearly as much!" And it was just because of the praise! That made my heart happy because she was such a sweetheart, and it was great to know that our time together was making a positive impact! Anyways. CONGRATS on sharing a lovely mini challenge with us that was EASY but made a positive difference!
Day 2 - Recall Challenge
🎉 Day 2 – Jackpot Surprise 🥓🎾🍗 Yesterday you chose your recall word — that’s the foundation. Consistency matters, because your dog needs to know that word always predicts something good. But here’s the fun twist: sometimes “good” needs to be supersized. Dogs love surprises. If recall always pays the same, it can lose its sparkle. But when it sometimes pays out like a slot machine — jackpot! — your dog learns to run to you in case this time is the big one. 🎰💰 🟢 Today’s Action 🐾 • Call your dog at least 3 times today using your recall word — pick easy moments for success • At least once, pay with a jackpot: rapid fire 5–10 tasty little treats in a row, or a tug game with a favourite “special occasion” toy 🎾🧀 • Make it FUN and over-the-top so your dog thinks recall is the best thing in town • Layer on praise and playful body language — clap, cheer, bend down, or move with them to make it electric ⚡️ 🪄 Aha Moment: Dogs keep “playing the game” when the prize is sometimes supersized — unpredictable payoffs supercharge motivation. ✅ Share Prompt 🎉 Post what you used for your jackpot and how your dog reacted. Did they light up like they were hitting the jackpot? Bonus if you share a photo or short video — we want to see those happy faces 🐶📸 📆📍 Tomorrow we’ll turn recall into a game dogs love even more than jackpots… hide and seek 👀🐕 (If you missed the introduction to the Recall Challenge go there first LINK)

I don't really have jackpots available all the time! But I did practice with R as planned :)
Day 1 - Recall Challenge (September 2025)
🪄Day 1 – Choosing Your Magic Word ✨ Welcome to the first day of the Recall Challenge! This one step sets the tone for the whole week — and your dog will feel the difference immediately. Today we’re starting with something simple, that has the power to be magical: your dog’s recall word. Dogs do best when one word always means the same thing and predicts something great in their world. If we change it up (Come here! Over here! Let’s go!) or aren’t consistent with what follows, they can get confused or start to tune us out. A clear, consistent cue is the very first step toward a reliable recall. 🟢 Today’s Action 🐾 • Choose your recall word (stick with your current one if it works, or pick a new one) • Say it at least 3 different times today in a happy voice and give your dog a top-notch reward each time • Keep it easy — say the word when your dog is already near you and not distracted • At least once, make it a “party moment” — pile on treats, play, or silly celebration so your dog thinks it’s the best word ever 🎉 • Add a step back or playful movement right after you say it — dogs love to chase, so you become extra magnetic • Layer on praise and celebration — cheer, clap, bend down, or give happy pets so your dog knows you’re thrilled they came 🪄 Aha Moment: When your recall word is always consistent and followed by fun, your dog starts to love hearing it — not just notice it. ✅ Share Prompt 🎉 Drop your recall word in the comments along with your dog’s name and what reward made them light up. Bonus if you create your own post — you can add extra pics and spark more chat there too! Photos or videos always welcome 🐶📸 📆📍Tomorrow we’ll build on this by adding a little surprise to your recalls 🧀🎾 (If you missed the introduction to the Recall Challenge go there first LINK)
