Introduction
Good day guys! Just wanted to introduce my self. Always been fascinated by commercial diving. Here to absorb information and learn. (Possibly make connections too) My background is renewable energy and environmental. I have a masters in Renewable Energy engineering and a bachelors in Environmental Science. Most of my work experience has been in the mining industry in Australia, now im back in the UK and trying to get into offshore oil & gas or renewables. Hopefully one day I will have enough money for all the diving courses :). Cheers!

Hi @Abdul Majeed, welcome mate. Your quals put you in line for some pretty specialized career paths, without really know your situation - are you trying to get into nuts&bolts diving? If so, my advice is focus on the engineering. There's a general consensus with most divers who make it to the 10-20 year mark in this industry, they all wish they had studied harder in school. Not saying diving is a bad industry to work in but its definitely a blue collar job and can be an unpredictable one at that.

@Abdul Majeed ahh understood. I thought you were aiming to head down the commercial diver direction.

Hello, I am 26 and from Norway. I am completely new to commercial diving, but I do have some scuba certifications (40m Advanced Open diver). I am at a crossroad in my life where I'm looking for jobs, and I do really like to be underwater.:) so now I'm looking at whats required of me to become a professional/commercial diver. Any pinpoints in a certain direction is very welcome!

Welcome @Sondre Fredheim I hope that e-book answers some questions you've got. We're a mixed bag of inspiring/student/certified/industry dinosaurs in this group so please feel free to ask questions and we'll do our best to point you in the right direction. Norway has a top tier commercial dive school (NYD) so you've got a home field advantage there!

@Sondre Fredheim training is just the foundation man, experience teaches skill and its usually learned on the job after training. I'm not sure of the Norwegian market for inshore work, there will likely be someone hiring for some lower tier jobs but you'll need to chase work to find out. Typically offers dont come from companies until they know who you are and you've proven yourself to be a good worker. €7k sounds kind of cheap for your 50m ticket, im assuming it'san inshore ticket rather than the offshore certification. I'm putting together a tool to help people in a similar position as yourself assess whether the industry is right for the. As the book said, a lot of graduates leave the industry because in one way or another, it's not for them. Having practical - hands on skills is important as its a practical - hands on job. You're basically working a small construction site but in a different environment, with different gear. I'll let you know when the tool is live. It might help you make a decision to see if it's a good fit.
