Gemstones we can use
Hi everyone, my name is Erika and I work with polymer clay primarily, but I recently discovered silver clay and was intrigued. My husband asked me to make him a wedding band since he lost his, but I want to make myself a matching one with gems. I would appreciate any help, advice, answers 🤞🏻 So now my questions are: - Which stones are generally safe to use with metal clay? - Have any of you tried using other stones/ gems/ glass, etc. aside from the approved list? - Can we use stones found at our craft stores? Some say cubic zirconias and glass gems, etc. Are those ok? - Where is a good and safe place to purchase gemstones from? Thank you and I hope to some day be of help to others as well.

Hey Erika ✨ I started with Polymer Clay too, hopefully you’ll really enjoy silver clay because a lot of the sculpting and creative side feels familiar, just with the added magic of turning into real silver after firing 🧡 When it comes to stones, Here’s a simple breakdown to help: Stones generally considered safe to fire in silver clay: - Cubic Zirconia (CZ) probably the most common and beginner friendly - Lab created gems - Sapphire - Ruby - Fire opal Full List - Check Here https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0596/7092/1404/files/Article-Gemstones_In_Metal_Clay.pdf?v=1670234148 A lot of craft store “CZs” or “glass gems” are glued, coated, backed with foil, dyed, or made with unknown materials when fired they can explode, crack, discolour, melt, or lose their shine. If you want reliability, especially for wedding bands, I’d recommend buying from a trusted metal clay/jewellery supplier, Look specifically for: “Kiln safe” “Torch safe” “Fireable gemstones” Hope this helps, any more questions ask me ✨

I honestly can’t believe this… thank you all so much for joining 🧡 I thought I’d introduce myself to everyone new here. Hi, I’m Jac! I’ve been making jewellery for over 10 years, with the last 5+ years heavily focused on Metal Clay. I now teach people how to create jewellery using Silver Clay. it’s the most magical material! ✨ I love helping people discover a passion for jewellery making and Silver Clay is such a beginner-friendly way to start creating beautiful silver pieces without needing loads of tools or experience. Let me know in the comments, What would you like to learn? ✨ Much love, Jac xx
Ring firing and sizing
Hi @Jacquelin Pettifer I have two questions because I was discussing this with my jewellery friend yesterday: 1. She is adding 4 sizes to the ring bands where else I am adding only 2-3. How many sizes do you add? 2. I am normally firing rings for three minutes after the binder fires and the peachy glow appears, she is firing for 7 minutes. We both seem to have different approaches 😀Thank you!!

I’ve actually got a video coming for this 🥰
Kiln tips
Hi everyone . I recently treated myself to a new jewellery kiln. A Prometheus pro 1 prg with preset programmes on it. Does anyone else have one and any tips?

This is a great kiln!! I have the non programmable one which I love! I use feet for mine as I found it helps with the heat. With a new kiln definitely do some strip tests for temp control as some kilns can be off around 20 degrees 👍
Shrinkage video
Hi Sully! I tried to watch the video about shrinkage, but it seems to be empty…Love your tutorials!
