Soooo, last nights repair stream did not go as planned, and I did not get to the Nomad until after the show ended. I'm kind of glad, as I ran into yet ANOTHER problem and this time I needed a second opinion. Against my better judgement, I dropped it off at my local repair shop this morning.
Here's where we stand:
When I got it, it was a brick. I swapped out the the leaking power capacitors and restored power to the board, but the ac jack was very loose and power would cut out at the slightest movement. I re-flowed the solder on the barrel, and suddenly got no more than a flash of the low battery light. I decided to replace the barrel entirely, but when I was removing the old one last night, the legs were so corroded that they actually pulled the copper contacts out of the board. I attempted to jump power from the traces, but no luck. I'm at a complete loss currently. It is possible that the aftermarket ac adapter I have been using actually fried the voltage regulator, which is a common issue, but we shall see 😢
