Devotional for December 21 – Peace When You Feel Behind
You look around and feel late to your own life. Other men seem further along—more money, more stability, more fruit. Underneath there’s this low-grade panic: “Did I miss it? Am I too far behind?”
Peace starts when you stop comparing your journey to someone else’s highlight reel. Scripture says, “The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord.” Ordered, not random. If He’s Lord, then even your detours and delays are raw material in His hands.
God is not pacing heaven, stressed about your timeline. He’s shaping you, not just your circumstances. What feels like “lost years” often becomes preparation for impact you couldn’t see at the time.
Today, instead of staring at where you wish you were, thank Him for where He’s met you. Ask Him for your next right step, not your whole 10-year map. Peace lives in obedience to the step in front of you.
Let’s pray together,
Father, I confess I’ve compared myself and felt behind. Forgive my envy and fear. I trust that You order my steps. Redeem what feels wasted and show me my next obedient move today. Anchor my heart in Your timing, not my own. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
“The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way.” (Psalm 37:23, KJV)
“being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.” (Philippians 1:6, KJV)
