On September 16, 2026, the Federal Reserve raised its target range for the federal funds rate by one-quarter percentage point to 3.75%–4.00%, saying inflation remained elevated. The vote was 12–0. “A rate decision is important, but it is not a complete personal financial plan. Families may feel changes through borrowing costs, variable-rate debt, savings yields, business financing, or housing decisions—and those effects do not all arrive at once. The informed response is not panic or prediction. It is to understand your cash flow, review which rates are fixed or variable, protect liquidity, and get personalized guidance before making a major move. In 100 Families, we turn economic headlines into better questions.”
